While Sir Tom Jones‘ forthcoming album, ‘Praise and Blame,’ is picking up critical garlands, it seems that a senior executive of his record label fails to see what the fuss is. A leaked e-mail has allegedly revealed that David Sharpe, vice-president of Island Records, considers the album — a collection of gospel, blues and country songs produced by Kings of Leon knob-twiddler Ethan Johns — to be “a sick joke.”

The Daily Telegraph reports that Mr Sharpe sent the e-mail on May 19 after he mistook the album as something lined up for the Christmas market. He wrote, “Imagine my surprise when I walked into the office this morning to hear hymns coming from your office — it could have been Sunday morning.”

He continued, “My initial pleasure came to an abrupt halt when I realised that Tom Jones was singing the hymns! I have just listened to the album in its entirety and want to know if this is some sick joke????”
