The return of Sir Paul McCartney to Brazil after an 18-year absence has provoked frenzied scenes among his fans reminiscent of Beatlemania. Fans erected what has been dubbed ‘Paul McCartney village’ as early as last Wednesday, Nov. 3, while they queued for the former Beatle’s show at the Beira Rio stadium in Porto Alegre on Sunday night, Nov. 7.

Speaking to the NME, McCartney described his bond with the continent, “I love South American audiences. I always think I have Latin blood because I connect so strongly with their love of music and their love of rhythm and their love of melody, so I always feel like I have a very big bond with South American people and Latin people in general. So yeah, I’m bonding, man!”
