Rock Of Ages: Original Broadway Cast Recording

Review
Absurdly enjoyable –New York Times

Rock Of Ages is a Tony nominated smash hit musical comedy currently running on Broadway and starring American Idol’s Constantine Maroulis and Amy Spanger. In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small-town girl met a big-city dreamer - and in L.A.’s most legendary rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the ’80s. It’s a hilarious feel-good love story told through the hit songs (including several medleys / live mash-ups) of iconic [Read More...]

I saw Rock of Ages both off and on Broadway and totally loved this very original and creative rock concert-Broadway musical. Though I was looking forward to the cast album, I was not anticipating a recording that completely re-invents the actual theater experience, but New Line Records and Rock of Ages have brilliantly managed to do just that, thanks to the well-chosen bits of actual dialogue from the play, d’Arienzo’s clever musical book and the outstanding talents of the cast.
Break out your wine coolers, order in some ‘delicious Arbys’ and be prepared for a rawking 80’s good time with this extremely well done Broadway cast recording.

Um….
I was hoping for a really hard hitting blow you mind musical. What I got was Jewel sitting in a corner and singing freakin’ lullabyes.

We are soooo excited to get this CD! It’s already available on iTunes and it is fantastic! Constantine’s voice resonates with such rich clarity. The entire cast does a fantastic job, and by listening to the songs in the order listed here, you can close your eyes and be back at the show instantly. And if you haven’t seen the show yet, GET THERE! Congratulations to the Cast of ROA for their 5 Tony nominations, and especially to Constantine for his Nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical! Can’t wait till June 7th to see if he wins it!

Can’t Stop Listening
Since it arrived in my mailbox, it hasn’t come out of my car cd player. I’ve seen the show and it takes me back to that night. I can close my eyes and imagine every scene.

Just okay.
Loved the show. The CD has lots of dialogue. Songs are incomplete. It is obviously not taped for the CD but a recording of music from the show.

After seeing the show four times I could not wait for this to come out and I’m happy to say I am not disappointed. Everyone’s singing is so tight, the dialogue that ties the music to the scenes is priceless, and it’s very true to the story–like being at the show again! Especially enjoy the songs with James Carpinello (as Stacee Jaxx) where he channels his inner rock star! Someone not familiar with the play might be wondering what the chit-chat is about, but if you’ve been lucky enough to see it (or just love the 80s), you will LOVE LOVE LOVE this cast recording.

This album took me back in time to big hair, leg warmers, and fluorescent colors. The songs are some of my favorite 80’s hits and I like the remix that the soundtrack has from…

I saw the show twice and everytime I think about it, a huge smile breaks out across my face. I love the show and really think it is going to be around for many years to come.

About as good as jukebox-musical scores get…
There’s little point in going into detail about the musical theater merits of the cast recording of “Rock of Ages.
