LCD SoundsystemWith a stacked lineup that sold Coachella out in advance and left thousands outside still looking for tickets, LCD Soundsystem appeared to be humbled by their slot on the main stage, directly before Jay-Z on Friday. After thanking Them Crooked Vultures for giving them a shoutout during their earlier set, ring leader James Murphy said, in noticeable awe, “That’s ridiculous. And thank you guys for coming to the side of the stage and not just leaving.” He faced the side of the stage to acknowledge them and all the other artists waiting in the wings to watch LCD’s set.

Murphy repeatedly demonstrated his gratitude, telling the crowd how “proud” he is to play for them, and then saying, “I’ll only get to say this once in my life so…stick around for Jay-Z.” Murphy also dedicated a song to Gil Scott-Heron who was scheduled to be playing a nearby tent. “Not only this song, but many of us in the band are also dedicated to Gil Scott-Heron.”
