John Mellencamp and his wife, Elaine Irwin Mellencamp, have ended their 18-year marriage, according to a statement released by the veteran entertainer’s spokesperson.
The couple, together for 20 years and officially wed for 18, announced their separation late Thursday (Dec. 30), days before ringing in 2011.
“John and Elaine Mellencamp are proud of their 20 years together and are very happy with their accomplishments both as parents and as a family,” the statement reads. “They will continue to raise their two children in Indiana but have decided to call it a day as a couple.”
