Foals had no idea they had been nominated for the Mercury Prize — and have revealed they were tricked into attending nominations ceremony.

The band, which has been nominated for the 2010 prize for its album ‘Total Life Forever,’ had thought it was going to London’s Hospital Club yesterday (July 20) for press duties.

Frontman Yannis Philippakis told NME.com, “We’re really shocked. We didn’t know about it until five minutes before the announcement. We were tricked by the people who work for us into thinking we were here for some other reason.

“We were in Spain and we had two days off, but they told us to fly back to do some press. We were kind of angry, so now it’s made the trip worthwhile.”
