Dntel, Jimmy Tamborello

Considering the danceable late-night grooves that pop up on Dntel’s two new EPs — the aptly named ‘After Parties 1′ and ‘After Parties 2′, both available Dec. 7 — you’d be forgiven for thinking the musician behind the project was a bit of a party animal. The beatsmith also known as Jimmy Tamborello may supply enough electronic squelches and analog synths to score a manic night on the dancefloor, but the LA-based musician confided he kind of hates the nightlife and, post-DJ gig, would rather just go home.

“I’m usually tired by that point — after-parties start too late,” he tells Spinner, adding that he finds his role as DJ a little disconcerting. “I get really stressed out DJing anything where I have to keep people dancing — I’m not good at it. It’s a weird thing because I always assume that no one’s enjoying it when I’m playing; any good response I get is just people being nice.”
