This DELUXE album includes the new CD + DVD of an hour and a half long Miley Cyrus concert at the O2 Arena in London with never before seen concert footage as well as interviews and back stage intimate moments. Miley has grown up in the public eye, and her new CD reveals her natural progression and sophistication. Miley teamed with Grammy-award winning producer John Shanks (Sheryl Crow, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson) and long time Miley collaborators Tim James & Antonina Armato [Read More...]

[I'll start off by saying that this is a review of the content itself - not whether or not Miley is a good role model, etc.. Any parents reading this should make the decision for themselves on whether or not it's appropriate for their child]
With that out of the way, I was surprised with the nice treatment this set got in the Deluxe Edition. Usually these consist of a couple B-Sides tracks or remixes from a past album. The deluxe edition here adds a professional concert DVD to the mix for only a couple bucks more!
The music itself is a mix of different styles - some pop, classic rock, alternative rock and electronic/techno pop. I found it to be a good mix of everything, but unless you love all genres of music, you’ll probably find your few favorites and stick with those (skipping past the others — for example, most people who like the faster pop/techno songs might just skip the slower pop/classic rock styled songs). To me, the album is about a 3.5 - 4.0 out of 5. Some catchy songs, some “skippers”, but everyones opinion will vary. You can get a good idea by listening to the previews on the Amazon MP3 page for this album. The album itself is rather short - 12 songs clocking in at under 45 minutes.
The big bonus with this set, is the DVD which is over twice as long! This is a full-blown concert DVD with high production values; something you’d normally find by itself for more than the cost of this set. The disc has some behind the scenes content and a full concert (19 songs, about 100 minutes in length). The video quality is very good - anamorphic widescreen even (a big plus as even today a lot of concert DVDs are non-anamorphic — the difference, for anyone unaware, is that on a Widescreen TV an Anamorphic DVD will have no bars, a non-anamorphic DVD will have bars on all 4 sides (top, bottom, left, right)).
Audio is also very good - options are available for Stereo or Surround 5.1.
Unlike most pop-concerts, the one on this disc is live singing (no lip-syncing), professionally shot and features a lot of her past hits/songs. Full listing for the songs on the DVD are:
1. BREAKOUT
2. START ALL OVER
3. 7 THINGS
4. KICKING AND SCREAMING
5. BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN
6. FLY ON THE WALL
7. LET’S GET CRAZY
8. HOEDOWN THROWDOWN
9. THESE FOUR WALLS
10. WHEN I LOOK AT YOU
11. OBSESSED
12. SPOTLIGHT
13. GNO
14. I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL
15. PARTY IN THE USA
16. HOVERING
17. SIMPLE SONG
18. SEE YOU AGAIN
19. THE CLIMB
Unfortunately, and I hate it when Concert DVDs do this, the concert isn’t a full concert from beginning to end. You get to hear a song or two before it cuts to interviews and other clips of Miley. While these are great to have, they work much better on their own (before the concert, after the concert or in the special features — don’t mix them into the concert!)
Overall a very good set. I can’t say how much everyone will actually like it, you’ll need to decide for yourself (check the Amazon MP3 page for samples though!). I think that with the Deluxe Edition, even fans of her past music will appreciate it, even if just for the DVD.
I love all of Miley Cyrus’s music, and this cd doesn’t disappoint at all! Every song is wonderfully sung, has amazing beats, ballads and shows how much Miley has matured in her music, and is finding more of her own style of music. Her new album doesn’t have one song that you want to skip over at all, and once you start listening to it…you will never want to stop. Her last cd’s made me appreciate her singing and lyrical talent, but this cd made me love her music…even more. I love the cover of Poisons “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn.” She has terrific vocals on there, and the acoustic guitar is terrifically played on that song.
It is such a different, but amazingly new sound for Miley Cyrus, and a way to stretch her musical ability. This will be one of my top favorite albums of the year, and I can’t wait to see more of what Miley has up her sleeve. She gets five stars, because she gets getting better, and has more of a promising future with finding out different styles of music that she can perform beautifully.
