The Bridge School Benefit always comes through with a notoriously unique lineup, but this year they’ve outdone themselves — Buffalo Springfield have announced that they will reunite for the special occasion. It will be the first time in 42 years that the band — featuring Neil Young (pictured) and Stephen Stills — will perform publicly. The only other surviving member, Richie Furay, will be present and accounted for when the band headlines both nights at this year’s benefit, which takes place on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24 at Shoreline Amphitheater, just south of San Francisco.
Other highlights include Pearl Jam’s 20th anniversary celebration, a pairing of Merle Haggard with Kris Kristofferson and an all-star smorgasbord entitled T-Bone Burnett’s Speaking Clock Revue (featuring — get this — Elton John with Leon Russell, Elvis Costello, Ralph Stanley, Neko Case and Jeff Bridges). In light of all these super special performances, it’s almost easy to overlook the fact that Modest Mouse, Grizzly Bear, Billy Idol and Lucinda Williams are also on tap for the benefit — but their sets will prove to be notable in their own right as, traditionally, performers strip down to an acoustic storyteller-style setup for the event.
